Complete the Mission
[Guest Post] Imagine driving down the road and being lost. You stop at the nearest gas station and ask for directions. You have faith that a person, that you have never met, will get you to your end point. Okay, so maybe stopping for directions is a little too 1987 for you. Every day thousands of people get in the car with just an address. They take that address and put it in a GPS to get directions. Never once do people question if the GPS is going to get them there. They just follow the directions, “Left turn here. In 500 feet turn Right. In one mile your destination is on the Left.” Why is it that we so easily trust this computer, programmed by man, but we won’t trust God?
Short answer, we lack faith. We must have faith in God that He will do what He said he’s going to do. The other thing we must do is be willing to take the steps that He gives us. I was talking with a friend and I asked her why she just wouldn’t listen to God and do what He instructed her to do. Her answer was “Well if He would give me Steps 1-10, then I could see what steps were easier and take them first.” There are a few things wrong with her statement. Number one, if God gave us all the steps that we would be taking, what do we need faith for? If you know what’s going to happen then, of course, you would do it! Hebrews 11:1 tells us Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. Did you catch it? …Things. Not. Seen. If we have seen it or require to see it before we move, well then, it’s not faith.
The second thing wrong with this is, she said that she would choose to do the easy things first. Flag on the play, when we start doing things our way and out of order, they don’t end up the way God intends for them to. Then we blame God for things going crazy. As Christians, we must be in a place that we totally give it to God and we must trust that he will get us through steps one to one million. What if God showed us Step 1-10 and even showed us the end result, but somewhere around Step 7 you are required to do something that makes you uncomfortable. Would you keep going? What you don’t know is Steps 1-6 are preparing you for Step 7, but because you haven’t done them yet and you are just looking at them on the proverbial paper, you are willing to forfeit your promise because it seems a little too hard. A little too difficult. A little too uncomfortable.
Today I challenge you to take Step 1. File the paperwork for that business. Purchase that computer so you can write your book. Order that Bible. Whatever your Step 1 is, do it. Complete the Mission!!
